TOMMY POPE EARNS CONSERVATION ENDORSEMENT

(Columbia, SC) – Conservation Voters of South Carolina endorses Tommy Pope for election to the House of Representatives from District 47 seat in York County.

“Tommy Pope takes a sensible approach to protecting South Carolina’s outdoor traditions,” said Executive Director, Ann Timberlake. “He will fight for clean air and drinkable water because he knows jobs in York County are dependent upon these essential resources.”

Pope understands the value of South Carolina’s landmark Conservation Bank that works with local land trusts to voluntarily protect natural and historic places. He will work for fair regulations to manage how much water can be withdrawn from our lakes and rivers and to limit the importation of more out-of state waste.

Pope is challenging Democrat Herb Kirsch for the House seat. Candidates earn Conservation Voters’ support through an endorsement process that includes an examination of the candidates’ records, questionnaire responses and interviews.

“Tommy Pope is a proven leader and he is committed to promoting clean energy jobs and investments in efficiency and renewable energy. But most importantly, he is passionate about protecting the health and safety of our communities” added Timberlake.

Since 2002, Conservation Voters has been making traditional conservation values a priority for elected leaders. The independent bipartisan organization holds elected leaders accountable and publishes a biennial Conservation Scorecard.
