Hello Fellow Conservatives,
Liberal pundits and politicians across the country are constantly harping about how conservatives are against protecting our environment. These liberals base their accusations on the fact that most conservatives do not support extreme environmental policies, like “Cap and Tax”, which only end up putting more taxes on the people instead of resolving any issues.
However, just because conservatives do not skip to their liberal tune every time they want to impose a burden in the name of environmental protection, does not mean we hate the environment. For instance, in South Carolina, we are extremely concerned with keeping our environment clean, in part because we depend on it for commerce and job creation. With the flood of tourism we receive each year, it is vital that we preserve our state’s natural andrenowned beauty.
Many people may also assume that environmental protection measures are at odds with economic development. However, these people need to realize that the environment IS business. From tourism to hunting and fishing, hundreds of thousands of jobs are created by conservation. And in a time of economic struggle, why not cultivate this vital source of revenue?
Let’s also not forget business recruitment. When BMW came to the SC upstate, they based part of their decision on the state’s high quality of life- from our beautiful beaches, lakes and rivers to our rolling hills and mountains.
As a conservative legislator, I understand that protecting our environment is in no way at odds with my core beliefs. While far-reaching policies by liberals must be opposed, we must do all that we can to be good stewards with the natural resources God has given us.
That’s why I am proud to be endorsed this week by the Conservation Voters of South Carolina (CVSC).
