State Rep. Tommy Pope to seek reelection

State Representative Tommy Pope filed Tuesday as a Republican candidate to seek reelection.

Pope represents District 47, which covers the York, Clover, and Lake Wylie areas of York County. The primary will take place in June and the general elections will be held in November. Pope is completing his first term in office, replacing former Representative Herb Kirsh in November 2010.

“Now that I have had the opportunity to serve, I have gained an additional appreciation for Representative Kirsh’s previous work and his tireless commitment to our area,” Pope said. “This first term has been a positive experience and I would be honored to continue to serve the people of our community.”

Pope has served as a member of the Medical, Military, Public, and Municipal Affairs, and the Republican Caucus Tax committees. He also serves as a Republican Majority Whip in the House. In 2011, Representative Pope was a recipient of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce’s Business Advocate Award for commending key legislative votes on critical business issues. The American Legion of S.C. named him 2012 Legislator of the Year.

Pope is a managing partner with Elrod Pope Law Firm in Rock Hill and Lake Wylie.
